During Anime Weekend Atlanta 2002 as the DDR2 AMV Project Premiered in the VAT (Video Art Track), a drunken Sotero Lopez (mexicanjunior) said that there should be an anime music video project with video game music. Tim Stair (Fluxmeister) took it upon himself to turn Sotero’s idea to life and started the NES Project 2003. The NES Project was a mix of anime music videos that incorporated video game footage and sprites in a fun and nostalgic fashion using popular video game music remixes and themed around the NES.
The NES Project aired at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2003 and was such a massive success that it spawned a sequel, the Retro Video Game Project 2004 which was themed around the 4th Generation of consoles (16-bit era and below). Ryan Molina (Castor Troy) joined Sotero and Tim to coordinate the Retro Video Game Project and it successfully aired at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2004.
The original trilogy of projects ended with Video Game Project 3 which was themed around the 5th Generation of consoles (32/64 bit era and below) and was also a massive success at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2005. The projects took a break for a year as Sotero and Tim left to pursue other things as Ryan took up the mantle to helm Video Game Project IV: Rebirth which focused on the 6th Generation of consoles (PS2/Xbox/GameCube and below) and aired at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2007.
After another one year break, the projects concluded with Video Game Project 5: Revival of Heroes which focused on the 7th Generation of consoles (PS3/Xbox 360/Wii and below) and aired at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2009.
The Video Game AMV Projects have aired at numerous conventions such as Anime Weekend Atlanta, Anime Expo, Magfest, and more throughout 2003-2009 to packed rooms all over the country. More gaming generations have passed since the projects have ended and we hope the Video Game AMV Projects provide a fun and nostalgic trip down memory lane with their fun integration of anime and video games!
